Celebrate Community and Support Our Heroes

Jackson Backyard BBQ started the same way a lot of great things do — with a few friends, some smokers, and a little friendly competition. What began as a simple cook-off in an uptown Jackson parking lot quickly grew into something bigger, fueled by a shared passion for barbecue and a strong sense of community.

As the event grew, so did the opportunity to make a real impact. From the beginning, we knew we wanted this to be about more than just great food and good times — we wanted it to mean something.

That’s why we chose to support The BackStoppers Inc.. They already do exactly what we set out to do — providing financial protection and long-term support to the families of fallen and critically injured first responders. They do it exceptionally well, with a proven track record and deep roots in our region. There was no reason to reinvent the wheel when we could stand behind an organization already making a difference every single day.

Since our founding in 2019, Jackson Backyard BBQ has donated approximately $150,000 to The BackStoppers — including a record-breaking $42,500 in 2025 alone. Every dollar raised is the result of community support, local partnerships, and the hard work of volunteers who believe in the mission.

We have worked intentionally to build Jackson Backyard BBQ as a true nonprofit organization, taking the necessary steps to operate with transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability. Just as important — no member of our organization takes a salary. This is a 100% volunteer-driven effort, ensuring that proceeds go directly to supporting the families who need it most.

Today, Jackson Backyard BBQ has grown into one of Southeast Missouri’s premier community events — bringing people together, supporting local businesses, and rallying around a cause that truly matters.

At our core, we’re still that same backyard competition — just with a much bigger purpose.
